The ferry port town of Gourock sits on the south bank of the Firth of Clyde and just 28 miles west of Glasgow with easy transport links and motor way driving for the most part.

Gourock was a popular day-trip destination for Glasgow folk with its ice cream parlours - a lucky outcome of the WWII which left a legacy of Italian cafes and parlours. Now a modern and thriving town with stunning scenery and a welcoming attitude, Gourock has many intriguing features, things to do and places to see!

Kempock Street is Gourock's main shopping street and has a variety of traditional shops.  Just off Kempock Street lies Granny Kempock’s Stone, a 6ft monolith that is reputed to bring good luck to newlyweds and passing sailors who walk around it seven times. Featured as part of a TV series and reputedly a witches haunt in days of yore - unfortunately several met an untimely and rather warm end there by being burnt at the stake!

Other landmarks include Castle Mansions and St John's Church, whose distinctive steeple dominates over Gourock. The town also contains Castle Levan, a fortified tower house dating from the 14th century. The castle is rumoured to be haunted and now runs as a Guest House.

Gourock also has a magnificent golf course at Gourock Golf Club and is home to the Royal Gourock Yacht Club.

Highland Mary in DunoonThere are superb views from Gourock across the Clyde Estuary to the mountains of the south-west Highlands. Visitors can enjoy walks along the Ashton Front promenade. Three miles west of Gourock lies Cloch Point, where there is a lighthouse that dates from 1797 and this is where the caravan park is sited.

Regular ferries run from Gourock to Dunoon, Kilcreggan and Helensburgh. A ferry service also runs from McInroy's Point (approx. 1 mile from our site) on the west side of town to Hunters Quay in Dunoon which is also home to such attractions as the Royal Marine Hotel and the 'Jim Crow' painted rock.

Pictured here is 'Highland Mary' as she gazes eastwards to the birthplace of her lover Rabbie Burns. The statue is situated in Dunoon and directly across the River Clyde from our caravans.

Gourock railway station is located at the Pierhead and provides services to Paisley, Glasgow and Wemyss Bay while a number of local bus services connect the town to the surrounding area.

We have highlighted just a few of the amenities in the Gourock area in the gallery images shown but this is really a very small sample of what is going on..
